INRTU and FEFU plan to create an engineering center for the provision of services in the field of mine surveying and geodesy.

The Department of Surveying and Geodesy of INRTU and the FEFU School of Engineering have concluded a cooperation agreement. The document was signed by the head of the department - the president of the International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM), Anatoly Okhotin, and the director of the School of Engineering Alexander Becker. The parties discussed the idea of creating a joint engineering center in the Far East.

According to Professor Anatoly Okhotin, the FEFU management invited representatives of the Irkutsk Technical University to celebrate the 100th anniversary of higher engineering education in the Far East. On November 1, a solemn meeting took place that brought together graduates of all generations, representatives of the Primorsky Krai authorities, partner companies, teachers and students of the FEFU School of Engineering, which today continues the age-old traditions of technical education.

The delegation of INRTU also included professor Alexander Zagibalov, associate professors Semyon Gridnev and Evgeny Belyaev, engineer Vladimir Kugaevsky. Employees of the Irkutsk "Polytechnic" gave lectures to students of the FEFU Engineering School.

“Future surveyors and mine technologists showed interest in the meeting. Our young teachers told about the application of new surveying technologies in mining. It was about remote sensing of the Earth using satellite technologies and scanners of various bases (air, ground and underground).  In addition, the potential of unmanned aerial vehicles was presented. During the presentation, we reported on our practical experience of using high-tech tools and equipment when working for mining companies. Several students of the School of Engineering have expressed the wish to have an internship at the Department of INRTU. We are ready to receive them in Irkutsk,”said Anatoly Okhotin.

In addition, the delegation of INRTU organized a seminar for potential employers of the Far East. The event was attended by the leaders of large mining companies and small quarries where construction materials are mined.

“At a reception at the rector of FEFU Nikita Anisimov, we voiced the idea of creating a joint engineering center in the Far East. Employees of the department talked about the successful experience of the organization of the “Surveying for an hour” service, as well as about how the Emergency Surveying Assistance works. According to the rector of FEFU, surveyors in the Far East are in great demand, since the School of Engineering collects data from specialists only once every two years.

Nikita Anisimov became interested in the prospects of cooperation between our universities and promised to support the opening of the Engineering Center. We present this center as a joint structure based in the Far East. Colleagues from FEFU are ready to search for potential customers of surveying and geodetic works in their region, and our department will perform the set production tasks. At present, we are solving organizational issues, perhaps a small innovative enterprise (MIP) will be created with the participation of INRTU and FEFU, ”said Professor Anatoly Okhotin.

Within the framework of the cooperation agreement, the teachers of INRTU plan to give lectures at the School of Engineering on laser scanning, satellite navigation, digital modeling and unmanned vehicles. Irkutsk University undertakes to annually take on the practice of at least two students from Vladivostok. The parties intend to jointly produce training manuals and participate in the International Summer School organized by the International Union of Mine Surveyors. In turn, colleagues from FEFU will contribute to the involvement of the Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute in their international programs and projects.

REFERENCE: The history of engineering education in the Far East began on November 1, 1918, when the Vladivostok Higher Polytechnic was opened. Today FEFU School of Engineering is a world-class training center for the industry of the Far East. The University keeps the best achievements, continues to develop well-known in the country and abroad scientific schools in the field of shipbuilding, exploration of mineral deposits, the development of devices for the study of the oceans and others.

Now, over 6,500 students study at the FEFU Engineering School, more than 570 professors and teachers work, relations with 54 universities and research centers in 19 countries are developing. The training of specialists is carried out in constant contact with the largest enterprises - the shipyard Zvezda, the aircraft plant Progress, the plant Dalpribor, companies of the oil and gas, ship repair industry.
